The mark 'noon', Christian homes and Jesus as our Passover

Published by Steven Masood - August 14th 2014

The world is watching with horror as Islamic State jihadists in Iraq crucify Christians, behead children, and bury victims alive. When Christians flee ahead of their advance, the terrorists then steal their homes and businesses. They mark them with a red, painted U-shaped symbol with a dot above the center. This is the 25th letter of the Arabic character set (pronounced "noon"), equivalent to the Roman letter N.

The letter stands for Nazarenes, a pejorative Arabic word “Nasara” for Christians used also in the Qur’an. As Jews were forced by Nazis to wear the Star of David, so the homes of Christians are being painted with an Arabic N.

We learn in the Bible that due to the arrogance and falsehood of Pharaoh and his people, God declared a death penalty against all firstborns in the entire land of Egypt, regardless of ethnic background. The Israelites were also under this death threat. There was only one way the firstborn sons could be spared the angel of death. If the families obeyed God’s command to sacrifice a Passover lamb and placed some of the blood on the doorframes of their homes (Exodus 11-12), their firstborns would be safe. On that night, every firstborn child of the Egyptians died.

The Israelite children were spared because the blood of the Passover lambs had been placed on the doorframes of their houses. According to the Bible, it was the tenth plague that marked the turning point in Pharaoh’s relentless resistance to letting God’s people leave. After the Passover, he finally agreed to let the Israelites go free.

This illustrates the story of redemption, the central theme of the Bible. In the New Testament, Jesus became that Passover sign for all who would believe in him. Known by His name, they have eternal life.

Is it not so ironic how Satan flips things? He turns Truth into farce, life into death and destruction. Satan has deceived these precious Muslims who go around marking the homes and businesses of Christians with the sign of N so to kill and confiscate their belongings.

“… and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been would be completed also.” (Revelation 6:10-11)
