Why have followers of Islam, Socialism, Marxism, and Communism become united nowadays? A Biblical Response

Islam, Socialism, Marxism, and Communism have become united

Why These Movements Unite Today

Although Islam (as a religion) and Marxism/Communism (as atheistic political ideologies) are very different, they sometimes form tactical alliances. The reasons include:

A. Common Opposition to the West

  • Shared Enemy: All see Western civilization—especially its Judeo-Christian moral foundation—as an obstacle to their goals.
  • Islamists: Oppose secular democracy, moral freedoms, and Christian influence.
  • Marxists/Socialists: Oppose capitalist systems, traditional morality, and Biblical authority.
  • Result: Both target the same institutions and values, even if for different reasons. ‘The enemy of my enemy is my friend. ’

B. Desire for Total Control

  • Islamic fundamentalism: Seeks a theocratic state under Sharia law.
  • Marxism/Communism: Seeks a classless society under state control.
  • Common Ground: Both reject individual liberty under God and demand submission to their system.

C. Revolution as a Tool

  • Both see revolution—violent or non-violent—as necessary to overthrow the current order.
  • Both justify force for a “greater cause.”

D. Exploiting Social Issues

  • Marxism promotes identity politics and class struggle.
  • Islamists use anti-imperialist and anti-colonial rhetoric.
  • Overlap: Both use grievances (real or perceived) to mobilize discontent against existing systems.

E. “Temporary Alliance” Logic

Historically, ideologies that disagree in ultimate goals have still united against a common threat.

  • Example: WWII – the Allies (capitalists and communists) united to defeat Nazi Germany.
  • Today – Islamists and Marxists sometimes unite to weaken Biblical influence and Western democratic structures, with the assumption that they can deal with each other after the common opponent is defeated.

Biblical Response

A. Recognize the Spiritual Root

  • Ephesians 6:12 – “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against … spiritual forces of evil.”
  • Different ideologies can serve the same spiritual agenda—opposing the Kingdom of God—whether they know it or not.

B. Expect Strange Alliances Against God’s Truth

  • Psalm 2:1–3 – “Why do the nations rage…? The kings of the earth set themselves… against the LORD and against His Anointed.”
  • The Bible predicts that diverse powers will unite in opposition to God’s rule.

C. Understand Their Common Rejection of Christ

  • Islam denies Jesus’ divinity and the cross (Qur’an 4:157–158).
  • Marxism/Communism denies God altogether and calls religion “the opium of the people” (Karl Marx).
  • Both reject the authority and uniqueness of Jesus Christ (John 14:6; Acts 4:12).

D. Our Response: Bold Witness and Discernment

  1. Proclaim the Gospel – Only Christ changes hearts (Romans 1:16).
  2. Stand Firm – Do not be intimidated by the unity of opposing worldviews (1 Corinthians 15:58). With God on our side, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31-33).
  3. Pray for All – Even those united against truth can be redeemed (Acts 9:1–6, the conversion of Saul). God implores us to love our enemies and pray for them (Matthew 5:44-48).
  4. Be Discerning – Do not be deceived by calls for “peace” or “justice” that redefine morality apart from God (Isaiah 5:20). Test the spirits to see if they are from God (1 John 4:1-3).
