The Gospel of John

While the Synoptic Gospels talk about the Kingdom of Heaven, the central theme of this Gospel is 'Eternal Life'. John 20:30–31 governs everything: “These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the Word and God (John 1:1); Son of God (John 1:18; 34,49); The Light (1:7); Lamb (John 1:29, 36); Rabbi (John 1:38). He is the Messiah (1:41); Son of Joseph (1:45) and the King of Israel (1:49). He incarnated as the Son of Man (1:51). – al-Insan al-kamil – The Perfect Human Being.

He invites us to be part of His family as the Children of God. AS he is Light, by accepting Him, we become, because of Him, the light of the world. By believing in Him, we are granted eternal life.

Is Jesus a Killjoy?

This chapter explores whether Jesus opposes joy or rejects false sources of it. At the wedding at Cana (John 2:1–11), He transforms emptiness into abundance while addressing social shame. In the temple cleansing (John 2:13–22), He confronts corruption and restores true worship, asserting His authority as the new temple. Jesus calls us to trust Him as the true source of joy, prompting the question, "Who is Jesus, and will I trust Him?"

Being Born Again?

John 3 presents a key dialogue between Jesus and Nicodemus that examines spiritual rebirth and divine love. The chapter introduces the concept of being “born again” as a transformation brought about by the Spirit, challenging traditional understandings of faith.

John 3:16 captures the core message of the Gospel by highlighting God’s love through the giving of His Son. Together, the themes of light and darkness emphasize the choice between embracing truth and rejecting it.

Overall, John 3 serves as both a theological foundation and a call to personal spiritual renewal.

Will you give me a drink?

We live in a world where people categorize groups or individuals as unworthy, outsiders, or even the scum of the earth. The same was true in Jesus’ days. In John 4, Jesus deliberately crosses barriers that others avoid. Jesus meets people where they are, but He never leaves them as they are. Here we learn that religion cannot save; Shame cannot exclude; only faith in Christ gives life.

Get a Life - Follow Jesus

Jesus heals a man disabled for 38 years. Jewish leaders became hostile. Jesus explains His unity with the Father. My Father works, so do I. He was accused of blasphemy. Jesus calls witnesses to His identity. He   rebukes their unbelief and wrong motives.

Let’s think it over. Before judging the leaders, where might we resist Jesus because He disrupts our routines? Our purpose in Scripture is to know God truly and come to Christ for life.

The Bread of Life

Jesus reveals that He is not merely a miracle worker who provides food — He Himself is the true food that gives eternal life. The chapter moves through three scenes. 1. A sign – Feeding the five thousand.  2. A revelation – Walking on the water. 3. A teaching – The Bread of Life discourse

Five Stages – John 6

Provision – Jesus feeds the crowd

Power – Jesus walks on water

Pursuit – The crowd seeks more bread

Proclamation – Jesus reveals Himself as the Bread of Life

Decision – People either leave or believe

John chapter 7 shows growing confusion and division about Jesus during the Feast of Tabernacles. While His own brothers doubt Him and the crowds debate His identity based on appearances and assumptions, Jesus emphasizes God’s timing over public approval. The chapter ends with Jesus’ public offer of “living water,” which deepens the divide between belief and rejection, demonstrating how truth can be clearly spoken yet still widely disputed.
